This made me cry so much, just losing McKinley and the feelings being so raw still. But I wanted to share it just the same.

May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?

I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.

I want to go. I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.

To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears.

I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.

Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you, too.
That's why it's hard to say goodbye
and end this life with you.

So hold me now just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

So touching, brought tears to my eyes:(. The thought of losing either of my two breaks my heart.

I know what you mean Kate. What was really awful was knowing. You know, knowing that we were celebrating things like our last Christmas, our last Easter. Each day was bitter sweet.
I would sit and hold Kinley and tell her what a good girl she had been, it was like it was so important for me to get this across to her. And yes, every single time I would think about our time together coming to an end I would tear up.
It's awful losing a pet, but it's something we know we will all face sooner or later. A good friend asked me "Why do we continue to torture ourselves, knowing they never live long enough". I guess because of the love and the laughter and the pure joy animals bring to our lives.

I believe that having an animal share out lives is the only time we will ever experience unconditional love on this earth for the lifetime of that particular being. It's a pure and genuine love. Nothing more innocent than that. Except possibly, that of a newborn skin baby. :-)

Pam,
Thanks for sharing. I believe we have each pet for a reason, each one is given to us (a gift) to learn something:) The journey is short but filled with pure love, laughter and lessons. I always try to remind myself how short our time is with them. I make the most out of everyday and never take them for granted. We will see them all again one day..........
