Hello,

So my 6 month old boxer, Miles, has been having traces of blood in his poop. Its not every poop, and never in the firm ones.. only when its runny.(And only about 1 or 2 drops) Brought him to to vet, had the poop checked twice and a bunch of tests done. $300 dollars later they told me nothing was wrong?! I am looking into different vets in the area to get a second opinion, but while i wait.. Has this happend to any of you before? Any idea what it could be? He acts completely happy and normal otherwise..

Could be any number of things. I found this post, which sounds similar to whats going on with your boy. http://www.boxerrepublic.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8933&p=79592&hilit=Blood+in+stool#p79592
But always follow your gut feeling, if you think a second opinion is in order, then by all means, seek one out. Good Luck

My first thought was pesty parasites but if that is negative our trainer swears that runny poo has to do with the richness of a dog food. Some dog food works for some dogs others need something different. Took me forever to find one I really felt good about and agreed with two dogs. Hope you find out or figure out soon.

Also, keep in mind dogs bleed easier in this area than people do. I would get a second opinion. Blood is never something to take lightly. Please keep us informed. Take Care.

Bloody soft poop can have a myriad of causes. Some which come to mind immediately are pancreatitis, boxer colitis, infection or parasite. If tests come back fine, then it could just be an occasional irritation of the gut or if frequent could be colitis or allergies.

WHEW.... BIG sigh of relief for you guys. I know you must be so relieved. I am for you.
THANKS so much for letting us know.
We do tend to worry about each others Boxer kids.
Keep us posted on him and how he is doing over the next few days.
I'm so happy you found a new vet you like. Good for you!

GOOD news. Hope you have some smooth sailing for a while. Puppy trouble is no fun for anyone.

Oh good, something easily treatable! I hope he's doing better soon. Poor guy.

Glad you like your new vet. We switched a year or two ago and haven't looked back!

I am so glad your vet found a cause, having dealt with some very bad cases of colitis (infection of the colon) I can say that you are likely to find some of the lighter antibiotics, like Metranidazole, may not be strong enough to kick it. One that I have found to be very successful with stubborn cases is Baytril. Generally a 30-90 day course on this high powered antibiotic will fix them up. He's always likely to have recurrances throughout his life, but knowing what resolves it quickly will make it much easier for you.

Good luck!
